Summer's Over

Quote of the Day:  How do geese know when to fly south? Who tells them the seasons? How do we, humans, know when it is time to move on? As with the migrant birds, so surely with us, there is a voice within if only we would listen to it, that tells us certainly when to go forth into the unknown. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

This weekend marks the passage of time, milestones in life, and the next generation rising up and going forth into the unknown.

I watched my first-born son pack up for college and hugged him good-bye.

Then, we jumped in the van and headed to my nephew's wedding, the first in the next generation.

Realized that my sisters and I are now the "old aunts."

And, I have just three kids to watch over, drag to weddings, help manage their schedules.

Plus, football practice has started, the mornings are cool, and we're getting ready for school to start.

Summer's over. The new season begins, in the year and in life. I wonder where these halls and pathways will take my biggest boy.

I miss him already.

Go. Create. Inspire!

Journaling Prompt:  What season are you in right now, creatively, personally, socially, etc?

Your post was perfect, Mary, just at the right moment as I've been thinking of how the changing seasons are also a change of the guard this year -- the last photo was also perfect, along the lines of French Impressionists painters with the road disappearing into the future.

I know your boys are going to do just fine. You're a wonderful mom.

And I'm back into the routine, I hope. It's been a wheee! roller-coaster time!

Kittie, so good to hear from you. What a summer this has been! And, it certainly feels over. So many changes, so much happening. Now, routine is setting in. Thanks for all your words and reassurances.

As I walked my dogs in the morning heat, I counted 55 days to what I feel is the beginning of a change in seasons here. Until then, mostly hot, dry and sunny. Personally I am in a season of living. At my age, I think it is wonderful. Though I wish for fall and winter, in general I look neither back nor forward. I try to grab each day and just live it.

Inger, you have a great attitude. Enjoy the rest of your summer days, and embrace the cooler ones yet to come!

I have learned that this step is more difficult for us, the ones that are left behind because, really, how exciting is it to be them? They have such wonderful things in store for them and the promise of all kinds of roads and experiences to explore. I always felt just a little more 'useless' as each one started to leave. The last will go next year and then I can only imagine what that will feel like....
But wait! I also thing that there are untraveled roads and new experiences and exciting things for me to explore............. Savor a job well done Mary. You have such wonderful sons.

These are such big important milestones. I'm excited to really get back to accomplishing some goals and reconnecting with friends after a busy summer.

Aunts and uncles can be very cool ... Enjoy! I've got four 20 something's calling me uncle and it makes me smile, especially since only one is truly related to me.
